Daaaaamn. I've been playing this since Day 1. Back in... 2007? Wow 2007 that's a while ago. I was a lot in to mods back then and when I discovered that a game like this was about to be released I knew I had to try it out. Man those old voices were hilarious. I like the news ones a lot but they will never reach the cult status the ones before have.
I have learned my lesson at last and may have a real forum signature thanks to the kind mercy of Bingo Bango

My dad downloaded pvk1 as a test, i played it and loved it and then kinda forgot it. Found pvk 2 and played it for nostalgia, didn't stop.

like 3 or 4 years ago i was bored one day starting looking at all the source mods and happen to come across Pvk, Me being a fan of pretty much all games to do with fighting especially melee i had to try it. Been playing it ever since off and on, i stopped for awhile because my pc broke and i took my time getting a new one. My name before this was +2High+ im an admin on the cannabis club server, on my other account anyways.

leave my computer open in spec allot of time to try and make the server look a little more full so other players will join, sometimes ill turn it off though cause having programs like that running 24/7 isn't really good for the pc.

I discovered pvk by a video made by a youtuber called Seananners 2 years ago, loved the game even though I was completely terrible and never turned back since.

I discovered the mod when it was released on Steam, back in 2010. Excited to try it out, I played it only to realize that my PC back then was virtually unable to run Source multiplayer games or mods. I instantly got the purple heart achievement because of that.
A couple of months after I got banned from Steam due to my ingenuity (fortunately it got recovered back in 2012), I created my current account and got CSS in order to play the mod. Even with a far more advanced PC I play skills were rubbish, but still played it all the time up until TF2 has become free to play. After that my interest for the mod had it's moments but most of my time I was playing TF2. Only recently I started to play it with more frequency.
I miss the times when Temple was a popular map.

I found the game on Steam back in 2010, I loved it and sucked at it. Then took a very long break and suddenly started playing it actively and joined the community last year, was one of the best choices I have made in a long time. Got so much new friends and all the great times playing PVK with them. Still loving the game for this day.

I have no idea why, I know a lot of people that seem to have that long break and then come back to it. I did the same thing. O.o

    Nice bump, very good question.

'Twas Back when steam and hl2 were still making waves in 2005/06 and day of defeat source was available in box form. My brothers and I shared a steam account with just dodsoucre, hl1 games and mods, and the hl2 demo I played the sh1t out of. I was a frequent visitor to Planet Half Life, and saw the 1.1 release post. I downloaded the game and loved it from the get go. Kegs, desertruin fun, zerking lawn mower, and skinny temple hallways and traps. It needed balance and more features of course, but it was fun as hell! But a dell computer would only survive for so long hah

A friend of mine told me to have a look at PVK2. I thought it's bad so I didn't even download it. Some time later I decided to install it, and I'm playing since. I don't know the time, but it was after the Gestir got released. Pretty late, but I could hear the old character voices at least.

How can it be popular if people only play Island, Arena, Cathedral and that pesky map with floating islands and missing textures?

Friend asked me to play around may 2011, been hooked ever since. I have taken small breaks every now and then though.

I think I was fascinated with how high-quality alot of source and goldsource based mods were, that I eventually decided to do a broad search of mods that seemed interesting.

Having played stuff like The Specialists and ESF, I stumbled upon PVKII when it was a wee bit updated with having atleast two classes on every team by that point.

I got hooked, and even more so when I found slammin' butt pirates and their wonderful servers full of custom maps and plugins, along with a community i've found a good handful of friends through.

    Koko kept bullying me ;-;

Me and a good pal of mine were looking for a game to play together, and he suggested PVKII. After ten minutes on the fabled butt-pirate servers, I was hooked, and I'm playing the game constantly now. One can usually find me spouting foolishness on one of the slammin' butt pirate servers now.

Oh dear, the way I found it is rather... curious. You see, I had discovered this silly video (which I couldn't find anymore after the first time I saw it) in which the Skirmisher gives the Gestir a spear for a present who then proceeds to shove it into his crotch. After the Skirmishers suggestion to kill the Knights afterwards, the Gestir instead literally earrapes the Skirmisher and figurativly the viewer.

After seeing that I decided to watch a random gameplay video, nodded it off as looking alright and then continued with my life for about 2 years. After these two years, out of the blue, I remembered that video, looked the game up again, downloaded it and loved it ever since. Funny enough, the day I downloaded it was a week away from the Sharpshooters release.

I started played since 2012 by seeing one of my friend playing in, I was curious, gave a try, got beaten a lot of times, gave up to play again, and i restarted re-played in around 2013-2014, thanks to a friend who encouraged me to retry again and i started loved this game.

I used to be a Chivalry player, apparently only one guy was impressed at how I reached Rank 25 fast, but it was a false impression anyway. I tried to find good players there, some good friends, but no, I only found assholes, high-rank assholes most of the times. They were all bastards, not worth friending, not even playing with them.

It's not the community I cared so much, I liked Chivalry because of its gameplay. But then...I played it some more, then I got deeper into Chivalry. I found out that ping was an extreme necessity, you have it higher than 50 and you will tend to be hated and kicked. Besides, teamkilling is big business, I always forgive and don't go "votekicking" any teamkiller unless he did it 6 times.

Can you actually believe that I was once killed by a teammate who is also an admin, and then when I tried argumenting with him, he just kicked me out of the server with the reason being "loser"? I'm not a mirror.
Some of you who know me, if you really think I'm like that guy, you're wrong. As much as I insult you and argument with you, there's nothing personal at all, you're only a candidate to be banned if you're more annoying than usual and if you are a hacker/cheater/exploiter/pussyhater.

Aaaand the gameplay was just a lot more exploitative than I thought. Tried some duel, I once got so easily beat by a Halberd Vanguard just because he did an overhead...But I did NOT see him doing it, he just already put his mouse waaay down. How is that fair, not being able to see a Halberd going down on you and just already dying instantly from it, not being able to dodge or block?

So I quit; community, ping and combat system was terrible. I went looking for another Melee-oriented game, and I found PVKII. Tried it for the first time and I loved it, there was some bad stuff like those annoying archers and the rare whiny players like 123, Eggz0r and the HC babyboys... (Calling them girls is just wrong, I'm a manly marxist-feminist after all)

But the rest was great. Combat system may not be realistic but it really was well done, the community was mostly very kind (I even got a lot of good friends, hell even the devs are nice), there were little to no exploits (Balance was always good, this time it depends on the players, not the developers) and the gameplay was very fun.

So, I switched from Chivalry to PVKII. Best thing ever.
