Ahoy lads!
I made another little map, and it's all about corn: There is a rye field, there is a wheat field, and a corn mill. Capture these if you want to take control of the corn production. (He who controls the corn production also controls medieval economy.)
But don't attempt to be Don Quixote, the mill would win anyways ;)

Spawns are protected, models and corners are clipped, visibility is optimized. I made quite an effort so that this will play as smooth as possible. The map is nearly finished, now I will be working on more eye-candy and ambient sounds. I'm specifically proud of the corn and flower sprites I made for this map :P
Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

    The seed heads of the rye seem abnormally large, mutant wheed? Mutant crop?

    big + for custom content and the livestock

    an overview screenshot would be helpful to understand the map

    textures are a bit repetitive and there's, from what I can see, no vertical gameplay. yo could add a few accesible first floors

    Wow! Nice map. it looks really cool.
    However, from the screenshots you provided, the map seems a little too empty.
    Aesthetically, it makes the map look a bit bland, but gameplay-wise, the lack of cover could let ranged classes dominate.
    For example, in the first picture, next to the Vikings' spawn there is quite a large field.
    Since Vikings lack ranged classes, they could be spawn-camped by Archers or Sharpshooters.
    Also, Vikings and all heavy classes will have a hard time capturing the points as they are open.
    I understand that as a farm-themed map, you can't add many props so I am not sure what kind of cover you could add.
    Apart from that, this is an awesome-looking map, and I can't wait to see it in-game :)

    Pretty simple and self-explanatory.

    The abnormally large rye heads are an effect of source's random scale on spirtes, I didn't notice that earlier though, will be fixed. And I indeed overused that wall texture a bit, I'll add some variety. However there are not many textures fitting that farm theme.
    I was thinking about adding some undergroud part so I might introduce vertical gameplay there, wasn't planned for the upper part of the map though. The mill has a second floor, but other than that I wanted to have less buildings and more fps ;)

    Ranged classes won't really dominate as the corn gives good cover, you can't see very far, unless on a path, and it's pretty easy to hide away in it. There aren't many farm-themed props either, but I'll see what I can add when doing detail.

    From the tests we did with a few friends it just tells you someone is there, but as they move it's hard to aim that way since you can't trace their movements.

    This map is built like a Last Team Standing map. At the risk of encouraging my least favorite mode, I advise you to change the map wihle you still can.

    If you don't want that, I have some opinions and feedback.

    - A farm wouldn't need three flagpoles. One, at most. I suggest disguising them as farm equipment that conquest-inclined warriors would tie a flag to. Such as walls.
    - There's no grinder in the windmill. Don't waste an oppertunity to grind people into... Bread.
    - There's no irrigation/well/stream/water collection/storage.
    - There's no discernable entrance/exit to the farm.
    - There's no barn.
    - There's no cellar.
    - There's no farm house (I'm not sure if this is as significant as the other things that aren't there)
    -There are A: lit torches that are are B: all over the place during C: day time.
    - A windmill that size wouldn't get any wind.
    - ... Statues?

    - There's no narrative. The Vikings haven't burned one single stalk. The Knights haven't tried to save/defend the produce, and the Pirates don't appear to have stolen anything.
    - The Viking side of the map is blocked off by walls, and not a burning field.

    - It's very flat.

    - The passages from the fields to the windmill are little more than sight blockers. I feel that there's a lot of potential in those chokes that isn't being used.
    - The Spawns are generic. I assume you're going to work on that.
    - No glowing territory markers.
    - It's a perfect square.

    Other than that, I like the gimmick of sight-obscuring plants that one can move through, and the concept of a farmyard battleground. Very PVK.

    Although, I feel that if you're going to repeat the main gimmick all over the map, you may as well make it LTS and have one, smaller field.

    The map was originally made for Dr. O's server to play on and enjoy our roggen, so the layout haven't been a big concern. It's true though that the current layout won't work well in territory mode and it is bit bland. If I would be the author, completely new layout would be my first task. However, judging from playing in public servers hundreds of hours, people seem to like simple layouts and cornmill would be popular even with current layout. The map is WIP though, everything is subject to change.

    But anyway, I love this map and doc has done a great job, especially on the custom materials. :wub:

    Well, you could replace some of the outer wall with fences, which would allow a view onto a nice 3D-skybox with fields. This way, you could give it a more realistic look.

    The shadowed areas are pretty dark but I look forward to seeing the map played to get a better feel for it. It reminds me of the pumpkin map which was always hilarious with the tall grass (and the skeleton).

    These are some neat ideas. However, I will stick to the territory mode and to the layout. I know that it's simple, but that is intended. Unless the player doesn't see that the map is a perfect square, it's not a problem for me. And you only realize that when going into spec mode. After all every map is just an interconnection of squares, that's how the engine works, obfuscated with detail so that the players don't realize how simple it actually is.

    There's a corn farm and the three teams try to capture it during a nice-wheather day with shiny sun, singing birds and screaming cocks. That's enough narrative for me ;) When playing one doesn't pay attention to a detailed narrative anyways, at least I don't. Doesn't mean I won't personalize spawns a bit.

    A 3D skybox with fields was my first try, but the sprites in the skybox literally killed fps. So that wasn't an option. And a 360° 3D skybox would be overkill for this little map. So I'll keep the walls. The main paths go through the corn fields so the map borders don't draw much attention anyways.

    Here's my current to-do list:

    - add a mill mechanism, either only as deco or also as trap
    - add detail ( trees, water, birds, personalized spawns, etc. )
    - add ambient sounds
    - maybe add an underground part

    Somehow, I don't think you need sprites in the skybox to create the illusion of fields and rolling hills. I am eagarly anticipating this map.

    Looking better! I would still recommend you to add a 3d skybox, if only to not have the map look like it was floating in the air. Some distant mountains or hills would do the job

    Looking good! I would recommend darkening the tree and crop textures as in game they're looking really blown out.

    Map wise, it could really do with some variation in height, the whole thing looks flat at the moment

    Wow - this looks great ell dawkta roggenab!

    Know what this makes me think? This reminds me of a land nearby tw_saints. Now saints is a fun unofficial classic, but it never really had one real consistent theme. It was a mishmash of organic areas and small castle sections. You've created a similar feeling like saints, but with a consistent theme. It's dreamy, bright, and has a great skybox (unlike saints). Makes me think of what saints couldve been if it looked more directed like this.

    And usually a river runs through old cornmills with a picturesq waterwheel nearby.
