Ultimate Map Ideas Thread

Here we can post a collection of our map ideas for future reference for current & future applicants, newly promoted devs, or devs who are looking for that special idea.

This way we can collectively come up with some great ideas for the right moment. We can excite applicants with great ideas, and then have them continue to do more work with convenient inspiration right here!

Whether its fighting atop of a clock tower (Bruce's idea), conquering the alleyways of jaffa (cap & uber's idea), or sprinting away with golden chests in the halls of Asgard (Peepee's idea). We need our applicants and mappers to be more creative than ever.

Ideally, post ideas that are possible with the current code. Note somewhere near the top of your post that it's feasible or requires code work.

I will compile a list in this OP for quick access to all concepts. Let's have it so every post in this thread is a new map, a new layout, etc. Discuss ideas on steam then record the best ideas in a cohesive post.

    I've got some layout plans to present you with. General plans, not with any specific theme. These can mostly serve as basic ideas for layouts.


    Note: The map size for "Sandwich" is supposed to read "Medium"

    Theme: Viking-centric
    Location: Asgard, a grand castle in the sky. Floating islands, boats, along side clouds and rainbows. Could be bright like Marvel's vision or dark and snowy ala Skyrim.
    Possible titles: bt_asgard, bt_valhalla
    Features/ Special Gimmicks: Viking's start with all chests. 8 chests? Golden chests? Something different than chests?

    Possible gamemodes: booty, obj_push, territory
    Features/ Special Gimmicks: Viking's start with all chests. Vikings have a fort. Each team has their own attack devise. Vikings defend fort with weapons in defense towers.

    Museum map. Could work for any game mode really. Players spawn within museum exhibits, as if they were on display and came to life. I know there's already a custom out there with this idea, but I'd like to see it made to PVK official quality standards.

    Crazytalk also had a cool idea for a map that takes place on the moon. It could have craters and various easter eggs around it. All the characters would have funny space helmets on and it would be slightly low grav.

    Got inspirated to draw this when I saw te_sacrilege. I loved the idea of a church&fort above the beachcliffs in a caribbean setting. Though I came to think of another layout and I didn't like that Niki had mixed a little bit of knight and viking theme to it also.

    Here's what came to my mind.

    Pirates spawn from the beach, Knight's from the catacombs under the church (maybe a secret freemason meeting chamber) and Vikings come rushing in from the jungle. There would be 3 territories in line except the middle one in the church a little above the other.

    All in all theme would be similar to tortuga except there would be beach, church, catacombs and also access to jungle.

    A couple of weeks ago when I was trying out hammer I came up with this idea for a map based on the Alhambra, the moorish fortress complex in Granada, Spain. With a twist, the complex (or rather, the part of it that would constitute the map - the whole complex is huge) would be floating in the air, like Dalaran in World of Warcraft, or te_float/pvk_float. I think the enviroments would really suit PVKII, and another good thing is that I think it would be easy to make it good looking with current textures from i.e. temple. I'm a beginner with mapping so I haven't gotten far and won't probably do a very good job anyway (if I'll even finish it), but I thought the idea was pretty good so if anyone wants to use it - go ahead! Some pics i saved for inspiration:

    Edit: The whole "floating" thing was mainly for practical purposes, making it easy to just throw it into a skybox so I wouldn't have to bother with making the surrounding hills and views etc. Might be a better idea to make it more realistic.
