PVKII Shop is an addon which I have had in mind for a very long time, back when I was still in charge of Island Party. This addon basically allows users to gather coins per kill they make which may then be spent on various items such as a quick heal, short speed boost, partial transparency, lower gravity (personal) and even an instant fill to your special metre.

This addon uses eventscripts as it's base and requires ES2, as it is written in Python. Each player's amount of coins, steamid and the rate at which he earns coins is stored in an SQLite database on the server it is being run on. Each player defaults to a rate of 10 coins per kill and this may be adjusted by the server owner, may he wish to give donaters or VIPs a small edge on competition.

This addon may sound fun, giving incentive for players to keep coming back to your server however chances may be that the Official PVK Stats may refuse or revoke your log file since this may generate a small imbalance to the game, as a lot of the items in the shop are not normal game occurrences.

Script Status:

Basically what I've coded so far, creates the database if it does not exist, creates a new record for players who join your server for the first time and also rewards players with coins at their established rate whenever they kill someone.

Current list of shop items planned (some mentioned earlier):
  • Quick Heal
  • Speed Boost
  • Partial Invisibility
  • Lower Gravity (ie: Higher Jumping)
  • Fill the special metre.
  • Buy a powderkeg.
  • Start with double the amount of ammo for ranged weapons (permanent purchase)
  • Swap team with anyone (can be used only once per map change, maybe?)

I am asking for feedback about this mod as well as suggestions for shop items. For the current list of items in plan, please suggest suitable prices, their time of effect (instant, upon next respawn) and how long these effects should last (an amount of time in seconds or minutes, till death, till the player is damaged). Also somethings that people may buy like being able to use a custom player skin; effects like this will never expire and will be toggleable.

Another idea is to alot coins for damage done and not for kills so that even if you do not kill a person you get coins for assisting the kill.

Thanks for reading,
can't wait to hear what you have to say,
Bojero

PS: The Alpha version of this script may be distributed so that players on your server may start hording coins from beforehand.

I hope that VIP's and Donaters don't get too much of an edge, because that would be onfair for normal players.
I have seen this kind of things on other games and that isn't fun when one or two players have just major advantages

If this were some sort of leveling mod then the advantages would be huge but since it's just spending for things which last a very limited amount of time the advantages shouldn't be so prominent. I also plan on coding the ability to send coins to each other of course.

I don't think giving unfair advantages is a good idea and a addon like that would probably mess up the accuracy of the servers stats.

Hence I wrote this in the original post:

Not all servers are registered under PVK Stats and some might actually find this script fun. We've played around with the effects of quickly using 2 specials in a row, buying low gravity and fast speed.. It's quite fun, adds a bit of originality to the game, not that the game isn't fun already but it's just something different to do.

I added buying a powderkeg to the things planned for the shop. Gathering suggestions from PVKII players on my Steam Friends, a lot have suggested the ability to buy another team/class weapon to use for that round. The only weapon I might agree with is buying a keg, and I'm thinking of keeping it on the cheaper side.

I kid, I kid, you can do what you damn well feel like, you made this glorious game. But I don't think bojero is still on this site

I only just started re-visiting. I'm back into the game since 2.3 has been released but I think I might have lost the code and inspiration. My old domain hosting the Stats signature no longer exists and I've got a new one but that code is also lost.. Are the global stats still up?

Please don't do a per-kill system. I'd recommend doing a static point system like this:

Round starts, everyone's purchased traits & abilities are reset, and points reset to the default (please don't add support for extra points for vip/other, it ruins the fun for everyone else. Getting kicked for a reserved slot randomly is bad enough already).

Players select their traits & abilities (or some use-previous option, or perhaps templates, also some per-class option would be ace)

Players will then spawn that round with those traits &abilities, and can change them anytime, but the changes will take not take effect until they respawn.

tl;dr: Everyone gets X amount of coins, can use them to upgrade their avatar.

I think this idea is totally evolving. It might go from being shop to being pickups on the maps.. Sort of like the food/ammo pickups you can pickup something from the ground which gives you a random effect like going full special or anything from the previously stated ones.

That would be cool, too. How about alternative uses of your special's charge?

Some ideas for pickups:

Misc pickups:
Extra Credit: 5 free scoreboard points
Keg: "Oh no, this isn't a pickup, its a-" *BOOM*

Lifelong pickups:
Instant Respawn: Respawn instantly the next time you die, doesn't stack
Smite: Inflict 25 damage to the next person that kills you, stacks
Reinforcements: next teammate to die will respawn next to you, stacks
Field medic: Slowly heal teammates near you (400ish units range, 1/tick, faster ticks the closer they are (3 ticks/sec touching, maybe?)), doesn't stack

Temporary pickups (15ish seconds?):
Double attack charge speed
Movement speed increase
Rotten apple (poison)
Armor piercing (attacks ignore armor)
Increased special charge speed

Tons of possibilities, though I'm trying to stay away from the instagib-type powerups (unless, of course, that they're harmful powerups >:))
