Best Blocking for Perfect Parry

I'm just curious what setup everyone uses for blocking, for the best perfect parrying result? If you go to options > multiplayer > advanced you have 4 options for blocking:

Automatic
Mouse Movement
Keys Movement
Keys Inverted

Is one more effective than the other? I think Automatic is default. Doesn't this just block in a random direction? Using this one most of the time it seems really inconsistent. I've now changed to Keys Movement which can be harder to use but seems I perfect parry more often when I'm trying to. I tried mouse movement and it seemed fine till I got into a real fight with someone who dances/jumps around a lot its almost impossible to swing the mouse in that direction while I'm jumping and hopping too.

    Automatic parry simply selects the direction automatically depending on who is closest to you, so yes, if you aren't in a fight and you spam it, it is random.

    I hate the full bar attack and auto perfect parry, it ruined the game, but as time passed I had to deal with it so now I use auto parry.
    As Nive said it chooses the closest player atk direction, so if a group a players atk you its hard to have a perfect parry.

    It's all about opinions.

    What's for sure is that auto-parry doesn't work too well on some berskies, since they seem to keep smashing that mouse button and your auto-parry will have a hard time knowing which will be next.

    For a guy who played Chivalry (sadly) and Condemned (I FREAKING LOVE IT), autoparry is my take.

    I am using auto too, why would I turn the gameplay into moving my hands around keyboard and mouse like I got epilepsy? Mouse movement attack/blocking is a way to go if you want to see totally random moves. My personal settings are auto parry/movement keys attack and it works great.
    And all this players whining about auto parry you killed them with, this are just music for my ears. You got charged attacks for a reason.

    I was talking about this earlier oddly enough. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of manual movement keys inverted parry. I think manual is more logical. I personally think auto parry is silly. Yeah I know you can fully charge a swing, but meh.

    I really think that whether it be manual or auto parry it could use some tweaking. What annoys me a lot is like, you would logically expect that if you're doing something like crouching and aiming at somebody's feet, you wouldn't really be able to parry that, but you can. The whole front of the player really becomes off limits and your only option is to do a full charged swing which would be at reduced damage. Also, due to prediction\lag issues a full charged swing against a parry doesn't guarantee it will break it 100% of the time.

    I guess what I dislike most about auto parry is just that it takes some of the satisfaction out of it. You can fool a player with which direction you might swing, but you can't fool an AI (yes, I'm saying auto parry is a form of AI) specifically designed to counter it. It's like an aimbot for blocking in my opinion.

    Anyway, just my opinion, I know full well not everyone on the team shares that opinion, heheh, but still.

    I'll admit, I kind of veered discussion, but to answer the question at hand (though Nive explained it), auto parry will automatically parry the direction it needs to based on the player you're facing's attack direction, and manual is, well, manual. When I first played the game, it annoyed the crap out of me too that it seemed random.

    Used to use manual parry for a long time, and still go back to it sometimes. But In my opinion I prefer auto-parry simply because it allows for better and faster movement options. My playstyle is heavily movement based and having manual parry active means for me to focus on your moves I have to be on the ground and moving in a specific direction, whereas I'm usually maneuvering around or in the air jumping between locations/obstacles. I think the system is fine where it is and is one of the unique things about the game and shouldn't really be changed. But alas that is my opinion.

    The best way to achieve a perfect parry is to engage opponents in such a way so as to force them to either try their luck with uncharged attacks, or die.
    Having successfully persuaded one's opponent into using a faster yet less secure attack in an attempt to output more damage, one should then accurately predict (or, depending on the size of the weapon, observe) their attack direction, and at the final moment block accordingly.

    Automatic. Since one of the more recent patches, block speed was reduced which means that rapid manual parry isn't really possible. Also, the Gestir's attack animations are too muted to properly telegraph.

    It would be nice to reward those willing to learn manual parry by removing the speed nerf on manual blocking (automatic parry remains the same). This would boost the skill ceiling without being detrimental to the new player base. Otherwise there's no advantage to switching to manual parry for older/dedicated players.

    Actually the gestir's attacks, which you cant see clearly just like mayday said, is the main reason I started using auto-parry....

    By "you" I mean of course "me" but seeing as you mentioned the Gestir's inversions upon inversions, I thought I'd share.
    Put the Gestir.vpk in the custom folder of your pvkii folder.
    It isn't beautiful, but it will allow you to parry Gestirs manually, and without the aid of attack indicators.

    It even has a nifty class-selection screen animation.

    Interesting, it makes the Gestir have his spear up when not attacking (not just idle), in which case when he's about to attack, it really shows, in first person as well.

    While attacking, he, obviously, takes his spear down and aims exactly where. When he aims right, it's to the rightest possible, yet at the end he hits at the centre, same with left. Bottom and top attacks seem to be held the same, but they do differ.

    Looks a little strange, but that's probably because of the fact that I see the Gestir always with his spear down and such.

    Thanks a lot, I tested this yesterday and it works great. Not only parrying but fighting Gestirs is now much easier.

    I play in manual, it's really more fun and you learn more with timing, and looking your ennemy weapon.

    i started with key mouvement but now i prefere mouse mouvement beacause i can move and blocking in different direction.

    could be good if auto parry can get a malus, like slower parry time. And a statmina for parry,that will remove auto parry spammer.

    Mouse movement. Mostly because I can switch between PVKII and Warband while keeping the same reflexes except more bunnyhopping.

    Can the Sharpshooter Perfect Parry? The only class that it makes sense for him to PP is the Archer. I've tested it but doesn't work. I have noticed it in his stats so maybe its possible?

    I use manual parry, and I feel like it has improved my game a lot. It is also more satisfying getting a kill using manual... And as said earlier I feel it is also better in a 1v2+ scenario where you cant just spam it.
