Hi there server admins,
I was on the PVKii official server
#2 (I''m pretty sure it was 2 anyway) and there was a player on pirates that many players on my team said they thought was cheating. After he went one round getting hit by multiple projectiles plus at least 1 fully charged claymore from me, he went on to kill 6 people in the server. If you look at this screen I took, it says he has 91hp while he clearly has a javelin and an arrow in him...which seems suspect to me. At least one of the archers on my team also claimed to have hit him with at least 2 arrows before getting killed by him.
I unfortunately have neither a demo nor his steam ID (can you get that from your logs?)

name PartyVan

But you can't do anything about it unless you KNOW he is hacking. I know i would be pissed if i got banned by being shockingly good at game...

That be a very nice booty yer have thar, it be a shame if something were to happen to it.
The only non-cheating explanation I can think of for this is that both the Javelin and Arrow were fired with no charge in the shot, and he managed to get to the food in the center of the map. But even then, I doubt he would be near 91.
That does sound very suspicious though. 2 arrows to a skirmisher nearly gets em, even if they grab the health. Plus the javelin...

Skenvo - I got that impression too, he was horrible until we changed maps to cathedral
I have an aristocratic smile and like to punch people
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
Armor just reduces damage taken by a %, it doesn't fully protect your Health. The lowest damage I have seen an Arrow do is around 20 and the lowest for a Javelin is around 50, so he's taken probably around 70 points of damage (minimum) out of a total 100 and is somehow still at 91. Even if he did get food, he still wouldn't be that high.
So please, do the world a favor and take your own advice.
What if the javelin was thrown from like 1 inch from him, in which case it would do about 10 damage? Also, how do you know those archers weren't bullshitting?

a) no need to be a toolshed, I'm just bringing here what was said
b) What are you, 5?
c) there is only one ham on cathedral and, if you read the rest of the post, you saw that I said he didn't pick it up
d) I'm still better than him even with his (potential) cheats, and could probably take you no problem too
uninstall yourself

This is correct
Yea because being on the forum has shit on being on the game

I don't even care if this guy gets banned or anything, just spreadin' the word
I know I've been seeing a ton of 4chan idiots (definitely came from TF2, *scoff*) but luckily we have Gag and Silence controls so it's all good.
of course, all the enemies are more faster than us with every single classes even if we are the captain or the skirmisher...!
what rihanna said time ago? ah yes! "please, someone help me" >_>

I know; I left before I thought of that and only remembered the next day because I noticed I had taken a screenshot. At the time, it was only because I thought he looked funny running around and jumping with a spear through his chest...you'd think that would inhibit motion a tad
Zaran... Do you know what ping is?

Transfers Steamfriends name to Steam IDs.
A demo with an embeeded wonid steamid is required, which also clearly demonstrates the manner in which he cheats.
I don't trust anyone to "give me" a steamid from a community page. It could be some asshole using someone else's name to get them banned.
That can't be done with embeeded data.
Embedding data on src is not rocket science. Any data input you make while you're recording a demo, also gets recorded. Fascinating isn't it?
Now with that in mind, please stop posting community webpage links as evidence. It can be false, it can be someone else, and he could have very well either picked up food between getting hit by different projectiles or the attackers simply didn't charge their weapons properly.
Consider every possibility, before judging.
Also, note the if. I hate ifs. They're obstacles on the path of truth that need to be avoided.
The last thing you want is a cheater coming back at you because you have no evidence of him cheating / banning a honest player based on angst.
half-life 2 multiplayer mods are not peer-to-peer based; they are client-server based. This is important, because the server has last say in anything that happens and does not give a damn what health the player claims to have. Oh sure, you can change the health the client believes you to have or displays your player as having with a simple memory editing hack(think software that functions like the action replay cartridge on the amiga or the game genie for NES) but the server will not know or care about this.
The only way he could possibly be cheating is with the complicity of the server(e.g. a custom plugin to reduce the damage taken by favoured players, or something of that sort).
I think it is "speed hacks" that have misled people into thinking clients can cheat in ways such as jumping higher, having more health and other impossible things. Speed hacks do not work by altering the position or speed of your client. They function by incrementing the clock faster on the client side; you can do this in a myriad of different ways(e.g. altering the value as reported by QueryPerformanceCounter, the timer function most often used for real-time applications, or altering the timestamps the client send to the server). The reason that the server allows this is that it is necessary for proper functioning during normal play; a client might have their anti-virus suddenly start updating in the background and might only get 4 FPS until it's finished; packets sent from the client to the server are not guaranteed to arrive in any particular order (or at all), maybe their internet craps out for a second or two.
It is apparently hard to make a sure-fire detection mechanism for this on the server-side(otherwise it would be a standard feature of all client-server based games), especially one that is reliable enough to take punitive action against players(sometimes people even speed hack briefly without intent, because QPF/QPC fails to work correctly for some specific motherboard, firmware, firmware version, CPU and automatic overclocking/cool and quiet combination).
My gut feeling is that you should be able to detect gross speed hacking without a pair of human eyes by looking at the way the timestamps from the client increment compared to the server; if 80 seconds has apparently passed on the client over the last 60 seconds as measured by the server, something is wrong that warrants spectating or kicking the player(but probably not banning or shaming them without a pair of human eyes to look things over); but I believe this is wrong for some reason or Valve and other developers more competent than me should have already implemented it long ago. Not that this would not prevent short term speed-hacking at all; the player could simply speed up the timer by 500% when it counts and sit in a corner running with the timer running at 20% to get the average rate of increase right. Without a pair of human eyes you would then need a fairly advanced AI to determine if they are just lagging attrociously or if they're consistenly using this speed up to their advantage.
Good first post. People don't seem to realize that "haxing" is never this subtle. It's more likely that the javelin or arrows didn't register when they hit (the same way you sometimes see blood from a melee weapon but deal no damage). Model information is client side, so it may look like you hit him when you didn't.
So that just leaves the fact that you guys all got slaughtered by a single skirmisher. Good job.
I think we need to have a talk...
