What Vanilla Maps Would You Like to See More Of?

Hi there!

It's probably no surprise that bt_island is like the most popular map in PVK2. There's plenty of servers (one of mine included) dedicated to 24/7 bt_island. I've been thinking of doing a more vanilla server, but it seems like vanilla rotation servers don't always do well unless they're LTS.

I already have a 24/7 Pinegrove server, and when it's full it's quite a lot of fun. So I want to pass the question off to you guys, what maps do you think are way too underplayed? Do you think there should be like booty, trinket wars, team deathmatch, or territory only servers to go against the grain of there being LTS only servers?

Do you just like a certain map that isn't played as often as you'd like?

I want to gather some feedback and would preferably like to keep this topic about vanilla maps. However if you guys like the idea of having trinket wars, booty, team deathmatch, or territory ONLY servers, maybe adding in some custom maps would be fine. Especially for TDM since we only have one official TDM map.

What do you think? I'd like to know your thoughts on this.

Just to clarify, suggestions involving bt_island, lts_arena, and lts_cathedral will be ignored since they are already the most dominate maps played in the community.

    Should just have a 24/7 Official Rotation Server, changes maps everytime a match is finished. But removing maps such as island,pinegrove, cathedral and Arena, maps that already got their own 24/7 server. So this gives a chance for maps to shine + avoids being repetitive as when the map changes, the gamemode does aswell. So just example having tw_fort, then changes map to bt_forgotten etc.

    Eh, people tend to leave most of the time when map changes happen. Matches can also be incredibly short with something like TW if there's not a lot of people and especially with LTS. That doesn't sound fun and it doesn't give you much time to get into a game.

    Also I don't really want a single rotation that the server follows of all the maps. I would like some voting freedom, just with more vanilla maps.

    Oh yeah, I've said this before too actually. Island is JUST the right size. It's still hard to fill up at times though. I really do love the size of the LTS maps. I just sincerely hate LTS.

    Maps such as lts_town would be nice, cause i know alot of achievements people can't get due to the maps barely showing up so you usually need to RTV on a custom server and hope to get the map you want to get a certain achievement. Town and Gravedanger deserve more attention.

    Tw_desertruin, tw_fort, tw_frostbite, lts_arena- yes,we lack a normal arena server, only those with special settings are up, lts_gravedanger, lts_town. This maps are highly loved because they are simple. Players, majority that is don`t know or even worse- do know but don`t give a thing about taking territory or booty, doing objectives. Most of them runs around the map to kill, kill, step on the brains. What else map needs to be played often (excluding bt_island case) is size (smaller are considered better) and fair chances. On catedhral ranged class will dominate the game, especially in the sudden death- while at arena everyone has equal chances. Simple maps are good maps. Or should I say-popular. If you look at, for example bt_townsquare gameplay, you can realise some of the paths between the teams are used all the time, even if they are not the best, while some paths that are not obvious remain empty for most of the round.

    Every weekend night. And about vanilla arena- black percy used to host "pvkii tournament mod" servers on vanilla arena, they have been fairly played. But on the other hand I guess, this was before the rise of "manblock/no specials/no pickups" fanbase.

    EDIT: oh, at ANY given time, excuse y english for missunderstood. Yeah pvkii is not that popular for any server to remain full at given time.

    More USA trinket wars would be nice. I like Frostbite, Tortuga, and Temple. Of course, I love Gravedanger and wish it was played more but that's LTS. :P

    Are we to talk about making more maps, add more/different maps to the existing servers or make more servers?

    Why don't we plan on getting more people instead?

    I was, I am and still am tired of PVKII getting more servers meanwhile it gets less players.

    Most of you probably think this is good, right? Problem is, you're all veterans (hopefully never to turn into PNVs though), it's gonna be hard for you all to quit the game.
    But then we got the public that is now steadily dropping and that's just bad.

    Blame it on whoever you want, I may look like I blame it only on the servers but it's more than just the servers, you got to accept the fact that none of you are really helping out that much on making the public bigger, if that is even your goal.
    If PVKII will simply become yet another game where you must be in a clan if you want to play with people, I sadly must agree with my new-born enemies.

    My first days playing, I had quite a great time with strangers, but now it's only boring veterans.

    Now, the problem regarding maps, they're all just plainly underplayed, everyone goes for Arena and Island forgetting about the rest.
    Pinegrove, Townsquare, Forgotten, Tortuga, Sandstorm, hell even Fort and Frostbite aren't that favoured.

    There are many reasons to play these maps, yet all those 'simple servers' just beat it, either people are boring or the veterans are boring and make the game boring by fooling the rookies that what's boring is fun.

    The player base is actually pretty big all things considered. I just checked now, there's 80 players online. At any given time I can typically find 50-150 people online. That's not a small amount of people. Relative to other games sure. 80 people is only enough to fill 3 servers, 150 is enough to fill 6. http://steamcharts.com/app/17570 Also for anyone thinking PVK2 is losing players, the average has been pretty consistent for PVK2's lifespan on Steam, with some spikes here and there

    Anyway this is not what the discussion is about. This is about maps and what people want to see. Not player numbers or creating maps. Yes I will create new servers with the vanilla maps and such. Options are a good thing. If people want to go play custom maps, they can go to that server. If they want to play some of the normal maps, they can do that. But the servers are limited and there's not a lot of good options for NA players, and even less if you have problems with the rules and\or admins of a particular server.

    If good servers can't be made, players won't stay.

    Just 6 servers? Then why we got more than 6, around 35 or even more?
    Also, don't forget to consider most of them are now 33 players, reducing the number from 6 to 4/5.

    And European time differs heavily with West Coast/American time.

    If good servers can't be made, players won't stay.


    No, this is more about "If there are players, there will be players" behavior.
    Nobody cares if the server is good, even if they do care they won't waste their time trying to find ways to fill that one up, no freaking way.

    The problem with servers is that you're all over-saturating it, except the ones from North America, you are right about NA servers, they ARE low and most of them are pretty much "fun-based", I believe the only vanilla NA servers are AMCoders and the only thing they are missing is Vanilla.

    Because freedom of choice? The biggest NA servers are SbP, and there's 3 of them. That and the most popular servers outside of them are bt_island based or LTS based and ping can vary a lot. If there were 6 servers that'd be terrible. I'd probably never play at that point. I dislike LTS, and I prefer manual parry yet most servers allow auto-parry or have other settings I don't particular care for. What if people want a server without saysounds? A lot of servers have saysounds. What if I want\don't want friendly fire? What if I don't like the rules\get along with the admins on that server?

    Also the 33 player count isn't officially supported. A full server really is 24 players. Heck 18 players can be considered a full server. I think that's even the default for listen servers.

    Yes people do care. New players maybe not so much, but any seasoned player finds servers that they like and return to. I have a few favorites other than my own. Oh and guess what, most of them are SbP because NA.

    Would having a territory only server be any good? so having official maps aswell as custom maps (probably like 3 or 5 to see how it goes) that are territory only, as we seem to have 24/7 booty and i never really seen a territory only server before so it could be fun. Most of the official territory maps barely get any attention such as Cara, Sandstorm and Tortuga sometimes (from the last time i played the game atleast) and i find the gamemode very fun due to the teamwork it needs to win.

    Recipe to keep players playing pvkii:
    -More constant updates
    -Skins system like in tf2 (but less goofy, more like medievel chivelry skins)

    This will keep players FOREVER, grinding for skins...

    Okay? people still play PVKII, the game will get updates when it's ready, and skins we got the workshop for that, hell even the workshop itself is a big bonus to helping the game. Now please keep this on topic!!!

    There is one map I hate simply because I adore it, "Cara".

    The more you play the map, the more you feel it's in some kind of mind-alternating state of "finished & unfinished".

    Finished because it is stable, has good territory idea (moving territories in the shape of horses) and the map itself is relatively medium-big sized.
    Unfinished because, the most obvious? It has no cubemaps at all. And then, the horses got some bad texture quality, seems it was made more out of not having enough time than purely for performance caution. Talking about performance, the map is not exactly too well optimized, even I get FPS drops when I shouldn't (Intel i7-2600k CPU + GTX 650, a videocard that can so easily handle Source Engine if it wasn't for its horrible engine optimization and use of an old DirectX9 API).

    Cara should get an "urgent makeover", with the important changes being Color Correction, Cubemaps and especially Optimization.
    I really wish Cara was a loved map, somehow most people hate Territory for no reason at all.

    I'd honestly like to see more lts_town, fort and frostbite. They are some of my favorite maps and I rarely ever see them played now a-days if at all. I was going to set up a server for them forever ago but ran out of free time to get around to it.

    Fort needs to be played more often, definitely. I recall having a great time playing it in one of the SBP servers.

    Did everybody absolutely forget about bt_townsquare?

    Now THAT is a great map to play, its only issues are that it's a bit old so the textures look 2005 HL2-ish era, but other than that the rest is pretty much pretty great about it, one of the best Booty maps.
    I love that feature where you're forced to go through one waypoint to reach the Town's Square itself, they'll only open up after the chest timer's down.
