From what I've seen so far, it looks really damn good. But sometimes, the concept renders look wayyy better than the final release because perhaps the game engine can't handle it. Has this been tested in game yet? Cuz I would hate to see these beauties be dumbed down for release

This is a problem I still think we have with the Lord's model. An engine's limitations should be known beforehand and models be specifically planned to look good in there once ported. Well, on the other hand, if the game would end up on Source 2 or something, the high-quality content might really come into full play. It's sad that a lot of the details people have worked on suddenly disappear once the models have been processed for the use with the Source engine, but that can't really be changed, I guess.
I'm pretty much just limiting the ddo outputs to specular and gloss, and obviously the levels of the maps need to be adjusted so they look correct in source (just like anything else really) but still its not like source cant have nice looking models. Take Jun Choi's Black Mesa remakes for example.
One other thing. I'm going for a mix of historically accurate stuff and "this is totally badass." The badass option generally supersedes the accuracy most of the time.
Will Turner: You didn't beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement. In a fair fight, I'd kill you. Jack Sparrow: That's not much incentive for me to fight fair, then, is it?
Wow, that archer shortsword actually looks like a blade. Amazing.
Are we going to stick to calling the short sword "Butter-knife" in honor of the current tradition, or upgrade it to "Butter-blade" in honor of the slick new model? I'm going with Butter-blade.
Also I'm thinking of putting some scrimshaw on the powder horn, id love it if you guys posted some scrimshaw you think deserves to go on that is really cool looking
flintlock pistol hipoly. im currently messing with beating up the wood on the flintlock rifle/blunderbuss/pistol etc in mudbox to give it more ~character~ the artisan pistol will have an octagonal barrel, and bone furniture with some carved indentations and stuff
I have no exact timeframe but I'm busting my ass trying to get this stuff done (and juggling a Summer job) because I'm going to college (Maryland Institute College of Art ) in September and I'm gonna be really busy then.
This is the spreadsheet that I use to keep track of all the stuff I need to get done.
One other thing is that I have had really bad luck just trying to get my models imported into Source, and it might be just faster if somebody else imported them and handed off the files for me so I could modify the materials to sources peculiarities.
Decompile an existing model, replace the decompiled model file with yours, recompile it, check that it works in Model Viewer, replicate the file structure, pack it into a VPK, and put the VPK in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2007\pvkii\custom.
You'll need GCFscape, Crowbar, studiomdl.exe, Model Viewer, and vpk.exe, in that order.
The process takes about one or two minutes if you set up a couple of shotcuts. Admiring your model in Model Viewer may take longer.
I know not of the precise nature of the issues you're having with importing your models into "Source" nor how or where you're importing them, but the method described above works for the implementation of modifications.
If the only program you have is your modelling tool, then you're probably better off giving the files to somebody else.
Not super sure on the parrot because I've never really made anything well, alive before. It might be better for a character artist to be doing that specific model. I'm cool with everything else though!
I've upgraded to Windows 10 and am experiencing a lot of problems wih getting things up and running at the moment so expect a bit of a delay before the next time I post stuff.
