Secure Connection Failed, A connection to Steam VAC Servers could not be made.

Do pvkii servers share some kind of pvk only steam id blacklist?

When I use my steam ID now to play pvkii I get the below error
on two different computers, yet on same computers I can play with
a different steam id. Also even if I 'make' a game I get the error.

" Secure Connectin Failed
A connection to Steam VAC Servers could not be made.
For troubleshooting network issues please click the link below.
Click here to visit Steam Support. "

And after reading the steam section it mentions that
the problem maybe third party anti-cheat server side, thus my post here.

"Using third-party anti-cheat applications, both server and client-side, is not necessary and may result in the errors outlined above. Do not use third-party anti-cheat applications while playing on a VAC secured server."

Because pvkii is free and I can make multiple steam ids I could get around this,
but I would prefer not to do that, and while I like pvk2 it this is to much of
a problem I will end up doing other games.

Of note just before this was happening I was on the infamous CVG
site and had about five in a row failures to connect....

Did you cheat before on any steam game?

If you using IP filters progs (peerblock etc), try disabling them when connecting.
    Something might be blocking connection.

Some problems are solved by simply logging out and logging in back into steam.

when I changed steam accounts on same computer,
that required me to 'log out' and I logged on to change back.
so that does not fix it.

Note above I mentioned my steam account does the same thing
on a different computer, and that computer was at a different location (ip).

And no, I have never used any steam cheats and if I look at
my steam account the VAC says I am in good standing and I
can play my other steam games like TF2 and bad company and more.

Thus it is a pvkii issue, almost as if the pvkii software used on servers
is using a non standard anti-cheat.

    Did sverek pvkii blacklist you?

    - did I get pvkii blacklisted?

    Good question.

Does pvkii have a blacklist method that is game wide and is a third party anticheat?

And if so is there a way to tell if you are on that blacklist aside from the secure steam vac error?

And if pvkii has a game only blacklist, is there a website or way to to check your steam ID against the list?

And if such a method exists, the error page that we are redirected to suggests it is not a good idea to fault to cannot connect to secure vac server....

Should I private message my steam id to a developer for comparison to a pvkii game wide blacklist if such exists?

My good friend Gekido can no longer play PVK as well. We have tried everything to fix the VAC error, to no avail. Internet/router settings, steam cache verifying, deleting the gameblob, etc. He can play TF2 or any other game. Other people can log on my computer and play PVK2. Literally nothing had changed since he was playing to now not being able to. None of the steam support can seem to help me at all. He tries to join a game, and BAM, even boots me if he tries to join the same server. This is a LAN, of course.

Does anyone have any ideas? He's never cheated, or anything like that. I didn't change any settings, etc.

As far as I know they don't have a blacklist yet, I thought it wasn't going to be implemented until next patch. Besides, that's for players like DigitalKiller that are a scourge on the game. I don't see what you could have possibly done to warrant a ban. You don't have any VAC bans, I see, so it can't be that, besides that gives a different message. In all honesty I have no clue why you can't play. It sounds like there is some kind of problem authorizing your account with the VAC servers, so probably who you need to contact is Steam support

Has your friend tried login with his steam account on a different computer at a different internet address and failes also,
and did you try login with your steam account on his computer and succeed to use pvkii ?

Also, was your friend ever able to play pvkii and then unable?

    argggg, can't edit previous post,

"Also, was your friend ever able to play pvkii and then unable?"

You did say he was able to.

So let me ask, does he remember being on a particular server or trying to get on a particular server just before the permanent problem?

    Perhaps CVG island?

Hmm, I was playing overwatch yesterday and someone had this too. He says it could have to do with TF2 going F2P

"He says it could have to do with TF2 going F2P"

At first I wondered how this could apply, but then I recall I may have started having this problem after
my kid started using my computer's steam by logout and login w/ their ID.

If I recall it use to be that you had to have one halflife2 like game to play mods, but now I read
"This game requires the Source engine and Source SDK Base" And you should not have to have a
purchased game because supposedly it will download if you don't?

Maybe because I do have purchased copies of halflife2 stuff and tf2 it got confused thinking I did not or is
using the wrong code to connect to secure VAC? this seems a bit complicated, seems a simpler answer
is that pvkii is blocking server side...

I think the VAC is busy with the hacking and cheating that comes with TF2 F2P. Cheaters and hackers cannot be banned as they can just make more accounts and hack again.

it is most likely something wrong with pvkii or something pvkii software is doing that is not steam compliant.

The vac servers shouldn't have anything to do with pvkii itself. Can you connect to non-secured servers?
  • delgurthdelgurth Senior
    edited 2:37AM
I can use pvkii as a different steam id on this computer and others, so yes I can connect to vac servers normally

I can use all my other steam games as my original steam id that is blocked
for pvkii on this computer and two other computers I tried at different locations.

So either I have some weird setting traveling in my steam cloud for pvkii
or maybe as suggested by steam support the issue is server side with some anticheat software
    on pvkii servers.

    To confirm,
I just went to MAKE A GAME as my original steam id,
put in a check mark for LAN game, and was able to get into PVKII
then quit and restarted pvkii, and MAKE A GAME w/o LAN checked,
and I get the VAC error.

NOTE I did not see an option to make a game with or without VAC
    for non lan games.

NOTE for finding an internet game I did not see an option to find a pvkii server
with or without vac secure, so don't know how you connect to an internet pvkii
    server without vac?

So even on my own computers runing the pvk server side is blocking my
connection to VAC for internet games. IF need be I can use one of my
remote dedicated linux web servers that is running l4d2 and install pvk to prove the same?

The ones that are vac secured have a little shield in the server browser.

Right now the only non-vac server online is |9zx| or whatever it's called
  • delgurthdelgurth Senior
    edited 2:37AM

confirmed my original steam Id can get into a server that does not have the shield

it appears that when you make a game it is automatically VAC.

So this means that only for the game pvkii my original steam id is blocked?
but the pvkii game does not give a clear error message saying I am VAC bad,
    but instead says cannot connect?

Yet my steam login says I am in good standing with VAC and I can do all other steam games
    with VAC?

I guess steam can cache and share fubar with other client workstations in the cloud,

It appears it was a steam problem just for my pvkii temp stuff not steamapps

I did get an answer back from steam, a general, delete all the stuff except
    steamapps and restart...

see below, it worked for me but after doing this when I play games
again I have to redo options or audio and mouse sensitivity
and other stuff was reset to default it seems...

    but it worked:

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

    Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam:

Generally when deleting my folders I'd back up my config files, I put a lot of work into some of those. Glad you got it sorted out.
